MÉRIDA.-El Centro de Atención y Refugio para Mujeres en Situación de Violencia Extrema (Carem), dio un giro completó en su estatus durante la actual administración municipal que encabeza el Alcalde Renán Barrera Concha, ya que pasó de ser un espacio desatendido, sin alimentos siquiera, a contar con presupuesto, capacitación e incluso nuevas, dignas, instalaciones que fueron visitadas hoy por el Primer Edil.
El Concejal constató las mejoras realizadas en el albergue mediante el Programa Presupuestario en Desarrollo, creado por primera vez en la historia de la administración pública y con el cual se destinaron casi seis millones de pesos a las obras.
El refugio, cuya ubicación se mantiene confidencial ante el peligro que podrían correr las mujeres e hijos que allí habitan, se rehabilitó y amplió para mejorar tanto sus instalaciones como la seguridad para las mujeres y los niños que residen temporalmente.
La directora del Instituto Municipal de la Mujer, María Herrera Páramo, y la jefa del departamento de Servicios Especializados en Atención a la Violencia contra las Mujeres, Fabiola García Magaña, ofrecieron las explicaciones durante el recorrido.
María Herrera indicó que con las adecuaciones realizadas, se prestará un servicio de mayor calidad a las mujeres que deben permanecer refugiadas por su seguridad y agregó que es la primera ocasión que se hace una inversión de ese tipo en el refugio.
Explicó que también reciben donativos de agrupaciones altruistas, como el Club Rotario.
Recordó que la actual administración recibió el refugio en condiciones lamentables y sin los insumos necesarios para atender a las mujeres que requieren de su servicio y, en contraste, hoy ya ofrece todas las condiciones de seguridad y comodidad necesarias.
Con la inversión realizada, además de los nuevos espacios construidos, se rehabilitaron los ya existentes, además de que todo el edificio se pintó de colores claros, a fin de contribuir a crear un ambiente de tranquilidad.
Entre los trabajos que se realizaron, está la construcción de un comedor con un área techada de 113.57 metros cuadrados, que incluye cocina taller con bodega, y comedor para 60 personas; lavadero, bodega, alacena, ampliación de módulo de baños, área de picnic, jardines y pisos de concreto. También se rehabilitó el área de administración y el salón de usos múltiples.
En la actualidad, el refugio atiende a 22 personas, que representan siete núcleos familiares. Hay dos mujeres que no tienen hijos y una más ingresaría el día de hoy, con un hijo menor de edad.
La directora del Instituto Municipal de la Mujer explicó que las mujeres permanecen en el lugar el tiempo necesario para crear una red de apoyo que las pueda ayudar cuando dejen el refugio, aunque aclaró que se pueden ir en el momento en que ellas mismas decidan.
Por su parte, Fabiola García recordó que entre los servicios que brinda el refugio figuran apoyo psicológico, asesoría legal, así como talleres de capacitación en cómputo, huertos familiares orgánicos, plomería, electricidad, costura y cocina. Para este último, además, ya cuentan con un lugar bien equipado con donativos del Club Rotario.
Renán Barrera agradeció el trabajo de todo el personal que atiende el refugio, liderado por María Herrera Páramo.
El Carem presta servicios a mujeres cuya vida y la de sus hijos se ha visto en peligro por la violencia familiar extrema. Por ello, entre esos servicios que reciben hay terapias de recuperación, así como también hay educación básica dirigida a niñas y adolescentes que son rescatadas por sufrir violencia y abuso sexual.
El refugio Carem labora los 365 días del año; las mujeres, además de albergue reciben capacitación para que puedan valerse por sí mismas, en periodos por lo general de tres meses, aunque éste se puede ampliar, dependiendo del nivel de riesgo y vulnerabilidad social y económica.
En el recorrido participaron también los directores de Obras Públicas, Carlos Arcudia Aguilar, y Desarrollo Social, Julio Sauma Castillo; la regidora Mireille Morales Estrada, Anavelia Estrella Carrillo y Loreto Villanueva Trujillo de Charruf, las dos últimas, del Club Rotarios.

The administration area and multipurpose room was also rehabilitated.
Today, the shelter serves 22 people, representing seven households. There are two women who have no children and more would join today with a minor child.
The director of the Municipal Institute for Women said women remain in place long enough to create a support network that can help when they leave the shelter, but said that you can go at the time they themselves decide.
Meanwhile, Fabiola Garcia recalled that among the services offered by the shelter include psychological support, legal advice, as well as computer training workshops, organic home gardens, plumbing, electricity, sewing and cooking. For the latter, moreover, already it has well-equipped with donations from the Rotary Club location.

The Carem serves women whose lives and that of their children has been compromised by extreme domestic violence. Therefore, among the services they receive no recovery therapies and there are also basic education targeted at children and adolescents who are rescued by violence and sexual abuse.
