Mérida sigue causando alarma por la cantidad de ciclistas que mueren atropellados por automovilistas y conductores de otros automotores: ya suman 25 fallecidos en esas circunstancias en menos de ocho meses, informó Everardo Flores Gómez, integrante del colectivo Cicloturixes, agrupación que desde hace años insiste en pedir acciones que acaben con esa grave situación.
Dijo que las 25 muertes son una cifra altísima comparadas con las seis que han ocurrido en el mismo lapso en el DF y ocho en Londres, que son ciudades más grandes y con más automóviles que la capital yucateca.
“La cantidad de muertes en Merida llegaría a unas 120 si agregamos a motociclistas y peatones que también fallecieron en accidentes de tránsito”, indicó.
Entrevistado, expuso que las bicicletas son un vehículo más en la vía pública, los ciclistas incluso pueden ocupar un carril completo cuando circulan. Y los automovilistas se exponen a sanciones si no los respetan.
Lo anterior, señaló, lo dice el reglamento de tránsito. El problema es que automovilistas, taxistas y choferes de camiones de carga y pasaje ignoran esto, y las autoridades no hacen campaña para darlo a conocer y advertir de las sanciones a quien no respete esa disposición.
Agregó que ahora también son sancionados automovilistas que rebasan a ciclistas sin dejar entre los dos vehículos una distancia de un metro y medio.
“Los conductores de automotores tienen que acatar la ley. Las bicicletas son lentas, pero son un vehículo más en la circulación, y quienes las conducen tienen los mismos derechos que quienes van a bordo de un auto o un camión”.
Everardo Flores informó que el próximo miércoles 26 harán una “Rodada” hasta el fraccionamiento Francisco de Montejo para instalar una bicicleta blanca en el sitio donde hace unos días fue atropellada y muerta una persona de 60 años de edad que transitaba en bicicleta. “Esta persona no violó ninguna ley, rebasó a los automóviles estacionados, tal como hace cualquier vehículo en circulación”, dijo.
Dijo que el gobernador Rolando Zapata incluyó en su lista de compromisos reducir ese tipo de muertes y realizar una campaña a favor de la bicicleta, pero hasta ahora no lo cumple.
También dijo que en reciente reunión con Roberto Rodríguez, titular de Gobierno, éste reiteró que harán una campaña de difusión para que la población conozca las disposiciones de ley al respecto y respete los derechos de los ciclistas. Además hay crear una política para la movilización no motorizada y crear ciclovías en las calles meridanas.
Respecto a las Rodadas que organizan cada miércoles y que consiste en que cientos de ciclistas recorren amplia ruta por la ciudad, Everardo Flores dijo que son una forma ideal para que la gente cobre conciencia sobre el tema pues los que participan viven la experiencia real de moverse por la ciudad en ese vehículo.
Eso, agregó, es diferente a un paseo en la Biciruta, la cual no está enfocada al transporte sino a la diversión en calles cerradas al paso de automotores.
“Automovilistas que participan en la Rodada cambian de actitud y cobran conciencia de que en las calles hay ciclistas y que estos tienen los mismos derechos que el resto de los conductores en la calle.
“Las molestias que causan las Rodadas, las cuales realizamos en la noche, cuando hay poco movimiento de automotores, son mínimas en comparación con los beneficios que traen.
“Son pocos los inconvenientes que puedan resentir los automovilistas, taxistas y operadores de autobuses, entre los cuales hay intolerantes pero tambien hay otros aplauden nuestro paso e incluso apagan los motores cuando deben esperar en un crucero.
“Y no esperan mucho, reloj en mano medimos que la caravana atraviesa un crucero en dos minutos como máximo. Es el mismo tiempo que deben esperar ante el paso del ferrocarril.
“Además, con días de anticipación informamos en internet sobre la ruta a seguir, de modo que los automovilistas pueden tomar rodeos si no quieren esperar esos dos minutos. La calle no es sólo para automovilistas”.
