El helicóptero en el que viajaba el gobernador de Chihuahua César Duarte cayó en la Sierra Tarahumara, cerca del municipio de Balleza según confirmó el gobierno del Estado y reportes de medios mexicanos. En la aeronave viajaba junto con el mandatario su esposa Bertha Gómez y la periodista Lolita Ayala.
Duarte, su esposa y Lolita Ayala, así como el piloto, fueron trasladados a la capital de estado para una valoración médica, tras sufrir contusiones, a un hospital de la ciudad de Hidalgo del Parral, de acuerdo a los primeros reportes.
Según reportan, la aeronave realizaba un aterrizaje de emergencia por una avería, y a una altura de cinco metros se precipitó.
