Al iniciarse la XV Jornada Quirúrgica de Labio y Paladar Hendido “Todo por una sonrisa”, el gobernador Rolando Zapata Bello visitó el Hospital Escuela “Doctor Agustín O’Horán” para constatar la valoración que reciben los más de 100 pacientes diagnosticados con este padecimiento, por parte del personal médico local y de la Fundación Shares International del Hospital de Florida, se informa en un comunicado.
Acompañado de la presidenta del Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) Yucatán, Sarita Blancarte de Zapata, el mandatario recorrió la Unidad de Especialidades Médicas (Uneme) de Cirugía Ambulatoria del nosocomio, donde se estará efectuando dicha actividad para determinar cuáles casos serán operados a partir de hoy y hasta el sábado 29 próximo.
Durante la visita, la directora de la Clínica Estatal de Labio Leporino y Paladar Hendido, María Flores Méndez, explicó que la meta es realizar de 10 a 12 intervenciones por día a través del manejo quirúrgico acordado entre los doctores yucatecos y 14 especialistas estadounidenses, que están acompañados por el jefe del área infantil del Hospital de Florida, Christopher Dobson.
El gobernador saludó a los pacientes, en su mayoría infantes, así como a sus familiares, mientras recorría la sala de juntas donde se hacen las valoraciones en conjunto y los espacios destinados a tratamientos psicológicos, terapia de lenguaje, trabajo social, ortodoncia y ortopedia maxilar.
En el marco de la visita, el personal encargado recordó al mandatario que independiente de las cirugías que se realicen en la XV Jornada, la Clínica Estatal de Labio Leporino y Paladar Hendido trabaja todo el año en casos de reconocimientos médicos y operaciones.
También se destacó la labor del DIF estatal, ya que este organismo de asistencia social ayudó a localizar a pacientes de los diferentes municipios, trasladarlos a la valoración y hacer el trato inicial con ellos, el cual incluye la toma de datos personales, peso, medida y fotografías para tener un expediente completo.
De la misma manera, se explicó que el 80% de ellos es de origen yucateco y el 20 restante proviene de los estados de Quintana Roo y Campeche. Asimismo, se agradeció la ayuda del Club de Rotarios Mérida “Nuevas generaciones”, que colabora con la donación de insumos destinados a la ortodoncia y la ortopedia.
La actividad contó con la presencia de los directores General del DIF local, Limber Sosa Lara, y del Hospital Escuela “Doctor Agustín O’Horán”, Carlos Espadas Villajuana, así como del subdirector de Innovación, Educación en Salud y Calidad de la Secretaría de Salud, Ramón Alejandro Hernández , y la representante de la Fundación Shares International, Michelle Gross.
