El auge de los comercios y servicios en Mérida continuará su marcha, en especial en el norte de la ciudad.
De acuerdo con datos recabados, el centro comercial La Gran Plaza será ampliado con la construcción de una tercera etapa y se mejorarán sus actuales instalaciones.
En el proyecto se considera que una firma importante funcione como ancla de la nueva fase.
Según se averiguó, el nuevo edificio de La Gran Plaza ocuparía terrenos ubicados en el lado norte del complejo comercial actual.
El local donde funcionó el casino “Caliente” sería ocupado por una empresa de entretenimiento denominada Extreme Jumping.

La compañía propietaria del centro comercial La Gran Plaza proyecta ampliar ese centro de servicios mediante la construcción de una tercera etapa en un terreno aledaño a ese edificio, ubicado en el norte de la ciudad.
Además, como parte de ese crecimiento, se mejorarán instalaciones y otros elementos del actual conjunto comercial. Esto, se indicó, con el fin de mantener la calidad de los servicios y la imagen que goza esa marca entre el público y los establecimientos que funcionan ahí.
Datos extraoficiales señalan que como parte de esa modernización habrá otras tiendas y negociaciones en ese lugar. Entre ellas se encuentran las siguientes:
—Se colocaría una firma importante que funcionaría como “ancla” en el proyecto de ampliación.
—El supermercado de la cadena Comercial Mexicana, que forma parte del centro comercial actual, cederá su lugar a una tienda Soriana.
—El local donde funcionó el casino Caliente sería ocupado por una empresa de entretenimiento denominada Extreme Jumping. Esta nueva atracción es un parque de trampolines similar a los que hay en la ciudad de México y Cancún, y va dirigida principalmente a jóvenes.
—Según se averiguó, el nuevo edificio de la tercera etapa de La Gran Plaza ocuparía terrenos ubicados en el lado norte del edificio, donde funcionaron canchas de fútbol rápido y un estacionamiento. Actualmente esos espacios están abandonados.
—Una avenida separa al recinto de esos lotes, de modo que habría un puente sobre esa arteria para unir a las dos construcciones.
—Las mejoras que se harán abarcarán aspectos del exterior e interior del centro comercial. El proyecto de la tercera etapa y los detalles de esta se anunciarían en los próximos meses.
En opinión de sus directivos, estos planes mantendrán el liderazgo que ese conjunto tiene en Mérida. Además, les permitirá adelantarse al crecimiento económico que registrará esa parte del norte meridano y lograrán que La Gran Plaza siga siendo un referente de comercio, diversión y servicios de esta capital.
Ese moderno centro comercial tiene 21 años, abrió sus puertas en 1994 y desde entonces, señalan los directivos, es el más importante de su tipo en el Sureste. Ante ese éxito, ese lugar fue ampliado y ahora se planea realizar la tercera etapa.
Actualmente tiene unos 300 locales en los que se reparten tiendas ancla, cines, negociaciones de distintos tamaños, dos secciones de restaurantes, así como decenas de islas y de quioscos en los que se ofrecen productos, servicios y diversión bajo marcas locales, nacionales y extranjeras.
En su estacionamiento caben unos 2,300 vehículos.
Como parte de sus innovaciones, La Gran Plaza abrió sus puertas a la cultura y el arte. En sus espacios se realizan presentaciones de música, pintura y otros rubros más.
Entre sus servicios al público está un desfibrilador automático para dar atención de urgencia a personas que durante su visita a esas instalaciones sufran paro cardiorrespiratorio.
Su plaza comercial hermana, Altabrisa Shopping Mall, construida por el mismo grupo inmobiliario, abrió sus puertas en 2007.
