LONDRES (AP).— Un jet militar que participaba en una exhibición aérea se estrelló ayer sobre una carretera transitada en Gran Bretaña dejando un saldo de siete muertos, informó la policía.
Los noticieros locales mostraron la erupción de una bola de fuego cerca de una arboleda y columnas espesas de humo negro.
El avión de guerra Hawker Hunter, que actuaba en el Festival Aéreo Shoreham cerca de Brighton, embistió varios vehículos por la tarde. Testigos dijeron a una televisora local que el avión aparentemente cayó al no poder concluir una maniobra de giro.
La policía de West Sussex informó que siete personas murieron y 14 personas fueron trasladadas a un hospital por heridas menores, además de un herido grave.
Stephen Jones, que estaba presente, indicó a la BBC que el piloto apenas iniciaba su exhibición.
“Había iniciado un rizo ascendente y cuando lo culminaba yo pensé ‘estás demasiado bajo, demasiado bajo, sube’. Se fue derecho a tierra, sobre o muy cerca de la autopista A27, que rodea el aeropuerto”, dijo Jones.
Se cree que todas las víctimas son de la autopista, ya que al parecer no hubo heridos en el aeródromo, y hasta ayer no se sabía si el piloto logró eyectarse del avión.
Se interrumpió el tránsito en ambas direcciones.
Al lugar llegaron los servicios de emergencia para auxiliar en las labores de rescate de los heridos y extinguir el fuego.

LONDON (AP) .- A military jet taking part in an air show crashed yesterday on a busy road in Britain leaving a balance of seven dead, police said.
Local news showed the eruption of a fireball near a grove and thick columns of black smoke.
The Hawker Hunter fighter jet, acting on the Air Shoreham near Brighton Festival, rammed several cars in the afternoon. Witnesses told local television that the plane fell apparently unable to conclude a turning maneuver.
West Sussex Police said seven people were killed and 14 people were taken to a hospital for minor injuries, and a severely wounded.
Stephen Jones, who was present, told the BBC that the pilot had just started his show.
